Reno Aces News Release
RENO, NV- Just minutes after Sacramento tied the game with a ninth-inning grand slam, Cody Ransom answered for the Aces in the home half of the frame with a grand slam of his own, lifting Reno to a 9-5 walk-off victory over the River Cats in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
The Aces clung to a four-run lead to begin the ninth, before Daniel Stange issued two walks and a bloop single to load the bases for Anthony Recker, who deposited a 3-2 offering just over the wall in right field for a game-tying grand slam.
In the bottom of the ninth-with the game knotted at 5-5-River Cats reliever Trystan Magnuson issued walks to Collin Cowgill, Evan Frey and Brandon Allen, setting the stage for Ransom, who delivered with a line shot that hugged the foul pole in right for a grand slam and a walk-off Aces win.
The victory went to reliever Jordan Norberto (3-1), who recorded the final out of the ninth inning. Aces starter Barry Enright allowed just one run on two hits over six innings of work in a no-decision effort.
The loss fell to Magnuson (1-2), who retired just one batter in the ninth before Ransom's slam. River Cats starter Carlos Hernandez worked 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings. Andrew Bailey-pitching on a Major League rehabilitation assignment from the Oakland A's-dealt a scoreless eighth for Sacramento.
At the plate for the first-place Aces, Mark Hallberg finished with three hits, while Cowgill and Konrad Schmidt drove in two runs apiece.
Reno and Sacramento lock horns again on Saturday. RHP Armando Galarraga (0-0, No ERA) makes his Aces debut, while LHP Lenny DiNardo (0-1, 40.50 ERA) gets the nod for the River Cats. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT and 2,500 fans will receive an Archie Bobblehead, presented by Tech is good(tm)
