Redbirds beat Tucson

The Memphis Redbirds hit three consecutive home runs in a five-run third inning and beat the Tucson Padres Saturday, 5-2. Will Inman allowed the home runs to Shane Robinson, Tyler Greene and Nick Stavinoah in succession and surrendered two more runs later in the frame. Inman suffered the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in three innings of work.

The Padres two runs came on one swing when Bobby Kielty launched a two-run home run in the second inning, Kielty's fifth home run of the season. The Padres pitching staff was able to keep the club in the game Saturday, leaving 13 Memphis runners on base, including seven in scoring position. Ernesto Frieri appeared for the first time on his Major League injury rehab assignment, and pitched a scoreless seventh inning, walking one and striking out two. Frieri is currently on the San Diego Padres disabled list with a lower back strain.

The Padres have split the first two games of the series against Memphis and have a 55-65 record. Tucson will play two more games at AutoZone Park before traveling to Nashville for the first time Tuesday to play the Brewers Triple-A affiliate, the Nashville Sounds.
