Round Rock Express News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Joey Butler hit his 10th home run of the season to lead the Round Rock Express past the Sacramento River Cats 7-3 in Pacific Coast League Action Friday night at Raley Field. The Express (70-50) and River Cats (70-50) are tied for the best record in the PCL.

Butler, extending his hitting streak to nine games, drove in two of the Express' seven runs on the first pitch he saw from Justin Souza in the four-run seventh inning. Nick Green and Val Majewski also drove in runs during the inning. Majewski has reached safely in all 16 games he has appeared for the Express this season.

Round Rock got on the board in the second inning with three runs on four hits. Butler and Majewski scored on Brad Nelson's two-run double to left-center off Josh Outman. Nelson later scored on Chad Tracy's RBI single. It was Tracy's team-leading 88th RBI of the season.

Outman (7-3) got the loss for Sacramento, allowing three runs - all earned - on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. He walked one while striking out five.

The River Cats got on the board in the seventh inning on Josh Donaldson's 16th home run of the season. They added two more runs in the eighth inning on Brandon Allen's 23rd home run of the season and Chris Carter's RBI single. The River Cats left the bases loaded to end the eighth when Pedro Strop got pinch-hitter Adrian Cardenas to ground-out to second base. Strop came in for Zach Jackson, who was responsible for the runners on base.

Jackson (11-5) got the win out of the bullpen. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three. He allowed both of Sacramento's home runs.

Mark Hamburger, making the first start of his professional career, went 4.0 innings without allowing a run on one hit while striking out five and walking one. Hamburger, now in the Express starting rotation, has appeared in 168 games out of the bullpen in his career.

Strop earned his 10th save of the season. He pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a run while walking one and striking out one.

Butler, Majewski, Nelson, Tracy and Esteban German all had multiple-hit games. Round Rock struck out 12 times for just the third time this season. The first two games came against the Iowa Cubs (April 7 and June 9). The Express, with 13 hits in the game, have produced at least 10 hits in 17 of their last 24 games.

The Express and River Cats face-off Saturday night at 9:05 p.m. CDT. Right-hander Brett Tomko (5-5, 6.96 ERA) will take the mound for Round Rock in the second game of the four-game series, while righty Travis Banwart (6-8, 5.07 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Sacramento.
