Red Sox and Dash Suspended by Rain

June 2, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Salem Red Sox News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - With two outs in the bottom of the second inning on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark, the rain came in earnest and suspended the game between the Salem Red Sox and the Winston-Salem Dash.

The Dash led 3-0 when the rain came, plating all three runs in the second. The inning began with three straight base hits off of Red Sox starting pitcher Ty Buttrey. Chris Jacobs singled and Omar Narvaez followed with a double that extended his hitting streak to five games. Nolan Earley then drove Jacobs in with a single for the first run of the inning. Two batters later, TJ Williams singled home Narvaez before Earley scored on an Adam Engel sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 Dash.

The umpires called for the tarp thanks to a driving rain with a 1-0 count to Jake Peter and runners on first and second and two outs. The game was officially suspended after a 51-minute delay. It will be resumed at the point of interruption and completed in its entirety during the Red Sox next trip to BB&T Ballpark from June 18-21. A specific makeup date and time will be determined at a later date.

The Sox now travel back home to the Roanoke Valley and take Wednesday off before starting a four-game series with the Potomac Nationals on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at LewisGale Field. Trey Ball (3-5, 4.98) will start for Salem, while Potomac has not yet announced their starting pitcher. It's a Thirsty Thursday featuring beverage specials at the ballpark. Fans unable to attend can listen to the game on 1240 AM ESPN Roanoke, online at salemsox.com or via the TuneIn Radio app.
