LAST TIME OUT: D.J. BROWN pitched a career-high 7 2/3 innings and held Frederick to only four baserunners all afternoon while Lynchburg's offense continued to roll, scoring nine runs on eight hits to claim a 9-1 victory at Harry Grove Stadium Sunday...LUIGI RODRIGUEZ walked to begin the game and promptly stole his 12th base of the year to move into scoring position for Paul Hendrix two batters later, who singled him home...Lynchburg's 1-0 lead didn't last long, as TREY MANCINI homered in the home half of the frame, but the Hillcats quickly built a lead again in the third when they scored five runs on only one hit...Five batters earned walks against former Hillcat JARETT MILLER, and all five came around to score...CLINT FRAZIER, NELLIE RODRIGUEZ, and MIKE PAPI walked initially to load the bases...With two outs, ALEX MONSALVE drew a walk to bring home FRAZIER and break a 1-1 tie...One batter later, JAMES ROBERTS notched his 11th RBI of the year with a bases-loaded walk...With the bases still full, IVAN CASTILLO singled up the middle for a pair of RBIs, and ROBERTS also scored on the play after a throwing error by JOSH HART to make it 6-1 in favor of Lynchburg...Lynchburg plated a run in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to extend its lead...FRAZIER walked to lead off the fourth and stole second base, which was his second swipe of the game and his fifth of the season...After a NELLIE RODRIGUEZ single, FRAZIER scored from third on a wild pitch to push the margin to 7-1...In the sixth, HENDRIX singled to open the stanza, and ERIC HAASE doubled to left-center field for his 21st RBI of the year...CASTILLO added a run in the seventh after drawing a walk and scoring later on a base hit by FRAZIER...Eight of the Hillcats' nine runs reached on a walk in the game...
VS. FREDERICK: Today marks the 16th and 17th meetings between Lynchburg and Frederick...Following today, the two teams only have two more series against each other, which are both in August...The Hillcats have won three straight against Frederick to take an 8-7 lead in the season series...In the first six games, there was only one home run between the two teams, but in the last nine contests the two sides have combined for 17 homers...OF LUIGI RODRIGUEZ has a team-best .356 clip with two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and 11 runs in 11 games...OF CLINT FRAZIER is batting .345 with four of his six homers and 15 of his 29 RBIs against Frederick...For the Keys, INF DREW DOSCH has hit both of his home runs and 15 of his team-best 32 RBIs against the Hillcats...He has also scored 10 runs in 12 games...
OH LOOK, ZIMMER'S ON BASE AGAIN: OF BRADLEY ZIMMER has the longest active on-base streak in the Carolina League at 14 games, which also is the 11th-best streak overall this season...However, what makes it even more impressive is that ZIMMER has been on base multiple times in all 14 of those games, which includes seven multi-hit performances...During this stretch,ZIMMER has a batting average of .451 and an on-base percentage of .563...He has four doubles, three home runs and has scored 21 times in his last 14 games...The No. 2 prospect in the Indians organization also stole his 22nd base last night, which is second-best in the league...
LOAD 'EM UP: On Sunday, the Hillcats had four men bat with the bases loaded and went 1-for-2 with two walks...Lynchburg has loaded the bases frequently this season and cashed in better than anyone else in the league once they are...The 'Cats have 55 plate appearances this year with the bases loaded, which is second-most in the Carolina League (Myrtle Beach, 67)...Lynchburg is batting .304 with the bases loaded, which is 30 points better than the next-best team (Myrtle Beach, .274)...The only thing missing from the Hillcats resume this season is a grand slam...Lynchburg's last grand slam came from Robby Hefflinger on June 24, 2013...
BACK, BACK, BACK GOES FRAZIER: OF CLINT FRAZIER had a great month of May, hitting .274 with seven doubles, six home runs, and 24 RBIs to raise his slugging percentage from .299 to .417... FRAZIER did not hit a home run and only had five RBIs in the entire month of April...On Saturday night, he registered the second multi-homer game of his career Saturday night with a solo shot in the first and a three-run blast in the fourth...Named Baseball America's Best Power Hitter in the Indians system, he also had a two-homer performance against the Great Lakes Loons while he was with Lake County on July 11, 2014...FRAZIER is tied with NELLIE RODRIGUEZ for fourth in the league with six homers...They are both chasing BRADLEY ZIMMER and LUIGI RODRIGUEZ, who each have eight...
HILLCATS FINISH MAY STRONG: Lynchburg hit 25 home runs in the month of May, which is more than any other Carolina League team has for the entire season...Frederick ranks second with 24 home runs all year...The 'Cats also hit 63 doubles, 10 triples, and averaged five runs per game for the month...The Hillcats did not hit a home run in the first six games of the month, and the team was very slow out of the gate as they lost their first eight games before finally defeating Wilmington, 6-0, on May 8...The Hillcats went 13-8 to close out the month and hit 25 home runs over the final 24 games..
VS. LEFTIES: Lynchburg will face a pair of left-handers today in MITCH HORACEK and CHRIS LEE...Lynchburg has been incredibly successful against southpaws this year with a 10-5 record...However, the Hillcats have yet to win a game in which HORACEK starts and are 0-3 when facing him...Lynchburg has a significantly better average (.273 vs. .238) against lefties and a better slugging percentage (.397 vs. .390)...Ironically, the Hillcats two best hitters against southpaws are left-handed...LUIGI RODRIGUEZ, a former switch-hitter who only bats from the left side now, has the team's best average at .357 with four doubles and a home run, while BRADLEY ZIMMER is batting .340 with three home runs and a .532 slugging percentage against lefties...
