ASHEVILLE-- The Asheville Tourists entered the fifth inning on Wednesday night trailing the Lexington Legends 2-1. Nine runs and 13 batters later, Asheville enjoyed a 10-2 lead that helped them pick up a much needed home victory. The Tourists prevailed 12-5.

Asheville plated their nine fifth-inning runs on seven hits and three walks. Joel Diaz singled home a run to tie the game and Jose Gomez put the Tourists in front with an RBI single off the wall. A throwing error made the score 4-2. After an intentional walk to Colton Welker, Vince Fernandez doubled in a pair. The next batter, Willie Abreu, tripled in two more. Abreu would score on a sacrifice fly and Brian Serven capped the inning with an RBI double.

Alejandro Requena earned the win by tossing six innings of two-run ball. Marten Gasparini hit a solo Home Run while Khalil Lee recorded an RBI double. Requena struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Fernandez tallied another two-run hit later in the game while Welker led off the scoring with a first inning Home Run. The nine runs scored in the fifth inning were the most runs the Tourists have plated in any inning this season.

With the victory, Asheville was able to snap a six-game home losing streak and end the month of May with an 11-13 record. June kicks off with a four-game series at McCormick Field against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
