Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - Colby Lusignan and Boo Vazquez each had three hits to lead Greensboro to an 8-3 win over the BlueClaws on Wednesday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park, denying the BlueClaws a sweep of their three-game series.

Lakewood (31-22) had won the first two games but dropped the finale on Wednesday, ending a five-game winning streak against Greensboro (28-24). The BlueClaws had won three in a row and eight of 10 coming into the Wednesday game.

Darick Hall got the BlueClaws on the board in the first inning with an RBI double - the second straight day he hit an RBI double in the first inning, but the Grasshoppers would quickly take the lead with three runs in the second inning.

An RBI single by Boo Vazquez tied the game and then two runs scored on a wild pitch that also included a throwing error by catcher Edgar Cabral . Greensboro added an RBI triple by Colby Lusignan and RBI single from Vazquez in the third for a 5-1 lead off Adonis Medina and the BlueClaws.

Medina, who took the loss to fall to 1-5 on the season, would settle in from there and came out after five, allowing five runs, four earned.

Hall responded with a two-run home run in the fifth, his sixth home run of the season. Five of those six home runs have come on the road.

After Hall's home run, Greensboro starter Michael King retired the last six hitters he faced. He came out after six innings, allowing three runs on two hits and earned the win to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Greensboro added a run on an Aaron Knapp homer and two more on a James Nelson single to provide the final margin.

Hall had two of just four BlueClaws hits in the game while Greensboro picked up 10, including three apiece from Lusignan and Vazquez.

The BlueClaws head to Asheville to open a four-game series with the Tourists on Thursday night. LHP Bailey Falter (2-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Brandon Gold (2-4).
