Charleston Dirty Birds News Release


Charleston, SC- The West Virginia Power ended their four game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs. Luis Escobar went six innings of one run baseball for the win.

Escobar was sent to the hill for his first start in twelve days. He ran into trouble in the first but escaped. The right-hander allowed his only run of the game in the bottom of the second. Brandon Wagner singled to begin the inning and was later driven home by Oswaldo Cabrera. A 1-0 Charleston lead dissipated quickly.

The Power responded in the top of the third. Adrian Valerio was plated on an Albert Baur single to left. The game was tied at one until the fifth. West Virginia took the lead on a Valerio RBI single. Clark Eagan followed suit to drive in another. West Virginia took a 3-1 advantage after five.

Escobar went six innings and struck out five while allowing just the one run on three hits. Jordan Jess allowed a solo shot to Estevan Florial but the Power responded in the ninth and downed the RiverDogs 4-2.

The victory for Escobar (5-2) was his fifth of the season while Brian Keller (3-5) suffered the loss. Geoff Hartlieb earned his fifth save of the season.

A rubber game has been set up for Tuesday morning. West Virginia will look to take the series against Charleston with an 11:05 A.M. first pitch. The Power will look to James Marvel (2-3) to take on Nick Nelson (0-4). Catch the call on the Power Baseball Network.
