Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
HICKORY, N.C. - With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the eleventh inning, Joel Booker singled to center field and drove in two runs to open the scoring in a three-run frame as Kannapolis defeated the Hickory Crawdads 6-4 in 11 innings on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Intimidators (28-23) take two out of three from the Crawdads in the series and finish the seven-game road trip 4-3.
Booker finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI. Jameson Fisher succeeded Booker in the eleventh inning by driving in the third run to give Kannapolis a 6-3 edge.
Kevin Escorcia (2-2) earned the win, pitching a scoreless bottom of the 10th inning while allowing one walk and striking out one. Victor Diaz earned his first save of the season pitching a scoreless bottom of the 11th. Hickory reliever Jacob Lemoine (0-2) took the loss allowing the go-ahead runs in the top of 11th.
Kannapolis starter Blake Hickman allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 innings and took no decision in his professional debut. Drafted by the White Sox in the seventh round of the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Iowa, Hickman had not pitched in two years while recovering from a right elbow injury.
The Intimidators took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Booker singled and scored on an RBI double by Brandon Dulin. Dulin finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The I's first baseman finished the series with back-to-back three-hit games and five RBI.
Kannapolis added another run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 advantage when Micker Adolfo led off the frame with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Seby Zavala.
Against the bullpen in the seventh, Zach Remillard homered to left field to open the inning and give the I's a 3-1 lead.
The Intimidators lost the lead, however, when Mike Morrison blew his first save of the season in nine opportunities. With one out and one on in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ricky Valencia launched a two-run home run to left field to tie the game 3-3.
The Intimidators return home on Thursday to open a four-game homestand against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Thursday's pitching matchup features RHP Jimmy Lambert (5-2, 2.75 ERA) for Kannapolis against Greensboro's RHP Jordan Holloway (1-1, 5.13 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. as Thursday is a Thirsty Thursday and features postgame Launch-A-Ball.
The upcoming homestand features also such promotions as a Salute to the A.L. Brown Wonders Softball & Baseball Teams on June 2, Superhero Fireworks Night presented by CEENTA on June 3, and Bark in the Park on June 4. Tickets are available by calling the F&M Bank Box Office at 704-932-3267 or by visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
