May 31, 2017 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - Trevor Bettencourt came into a tough situation in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, and as he's done all year, he got the BlueClaws out of trouble. The right-hander came into a three-run game, but the bases were loaded with one out. After allowing a single, he got two strikeouts and then struck out three more in the eighth as the BlueClaws went on to a 7-3 win over Greensboro at First National Bank Field.

Bettencourt has not allowed an earned run since his first appearance of the season on April 8th and has now thrown 17 straight scoreless innings with 31 strikeouts and two walks.

The win puts the BlueClaws, who have now won eight of ten games, (31-21) at 10-games over .500 for the first time this year. It's the first time since 2010 they are 10 games over .500 before the All-Star break. Greensboro falls to 27-24 and 0-5 against the BlueClaws thus far in May.

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning on a Darick Hall RBI double and added a run in the third on an RBI single by Cord Sandberg for a 2-0 lead.

Grasshoppers starter LJ Brewster (4-3) came out after four innings and allowing two runs and took the loss.

Greensboro third baseman James Nelson homered for the second straight day to make it 2-1 in the fourth before the BlueClaws pulled away.

Mickey Moniak took reliever Kyle Keller deep in the fifth for his second home run of the week. Then in the seventh inning, Henri Lartigue smacked a two-run single to left-center to put the BlueClaws up 5-1 off Michael Mertz .

Greensboro got back in the game with two in the seventh off Tyler Hallead before Bettencourt escaped further damage. Lakewood added runs in the eighth and ninth - on an Arquimedes Gamboa RBI double - to extend the lead to 7-3.

Ranger Suarez (4-1) was the winning pitcher, allowing one run over six innings adding four strikeouts. Suarez has allowed one run in 13.2 innings over two starts against Greensboro this month after fanning 10 Grasshoppers in a win last Wednesday in Lakewood.

The teams combined for 15 walks in the game, with Greensboro walking eight BlueClaws and Lakewood walking seven Grasshoppers in the game. The eight walks drawn were a BlueClaws season high - Daniel Brito drew three while Arquimedes Gamboa drew two.

Brett Barbier and Cord Sandberg each had two hits in the win for Lakewood.

The series with the Grasshoppers wraps up on Wednesday at 12 pm. RHP Adonis Medina (1-4) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Michael King (3-3).
