Kane County Cougars News Release

Beloit, WI - Anthony Recker belted a homer and drove in two runs, and Jared Lansford became a seven-game winner, as the Kane County Cougars blanked the Beloit Snappers, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field for the team's seventh shutout of the season. It was the final game of the regular season between the two teams, and the Cougars posted a 5-6 record against the Wisconsin rival.

Recker gave the Cougars an immediate lead in the first inning against Adam Hawes. Toddric Johnson singled, stole second and went to third on a throwing error and came in when Recker smoked a single to center for a 1-0 game. Then Recker belted his 10th home run of the season with a two-out rocket in the sixth for a 2-0 score.

Meanwhile Lansford (7-5), who joins Vince Mazzaro as Cougar pitchers with seven victories, escaped danger in all five of his innings, giving up four hits, walking one, striking out two and forcing the Snappers to strand one runner in each frame. Joel Posey worked two perfect relief innings before giving way to Brad Kilby in the eighth. Kilby erased that jam and tossed a perfect ninth for a five-out save. Hawes (2-3) suffered the defeat for the Snappers.

The Cougars (6-5) return home to face the Dayton Dragons for a four-game series that begins Monday night at 6 CDT. Joe Piekarz (3-2, 2.41) is scheduled to face Zach Ward (6-0, 2.50).
