Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (11-8-0-0) shut down the Sioux Falls Stampede (11-7-3-2) on all 26 shots, taking a 2-0 win on Friday night at the Ice Box.
The Stars converted on their first power play opportunity of the contest at 8:13 of the first period when forward Dominick Mersch tapped in a rebound in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The first and second period would wear on without a tally, but physicality and opportunities continued for either side.
Scoring remained stagnant in the third period until the Stampede pulled their netminder for an extra attacker. A pass from Mersch found Stars forward Ashton Calder for an empty net goal at 19:48 to double the lead, 2-0, and ensure a Stars victory.
Stars netminder TomáÅ=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka (7-6-0) saved all 26 shots in his third shutout of the season, while Stampede goaltender Jaxson Stauber (2-3-2) halted 30 of 31 shots. The Stars welcome Santa Claus to the Ice Box on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:05 p.m. against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tickets are available by calling 402-474-7827 or going to LincolnStars.com.
