Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede put together a solid road performance on Friday night, but could not find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to the Lincoln Stars at The Ice Box. Jaxson Stauber stopped 30 of 31 shots on the night in goal, but Lincoln netminder Tomas Vomacka earned the shutout with 26 saves. It marked the second time this season the Herd have been shutout by an opponent.
The Stampede got into penalty trouble early and the Stars would take advantage with a power play goal 8:13 into the period. Gustaf Westlund wristed a shot in the slot onto Jaxon Stauber who made the first save, but the rebound bounced in front of the goal to Dominick Mersch who skated in and backhanded a shot past Stauber for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later a collision in the corner resulted in glass breaking and the game was delayed for ten minutes while they repaired the glass. Both teams exchanged some good scoring chances after play resumed, but neither would score and Lincoln took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, outshooting the Herd 11-7.
After a scoreless second period in which Lincoln outshot the Herd 12-10, the Stampede took control in the third period, but could not beat goaltender Tomas Vomacka who turned aside all nine shots in the period. The Stampede had a good power play chance, but couldn't get the puck to bounce in the right direction and ended up taking two late penalties hampering their chances. Still, the Herd were down by just a goal in the final 90 seconds do the game and pulled Stauber for an extra attacker, but were unable to get the tying goal. The Stars sealed it with an empty net goal with just 12 seconds remaining.
The Stars outshot the Herd 32-26 on the night and went 1-for-5 on the power play while the Stampede finished 0-for-5.
The Stampede return home Saturday night to host the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 PM at the PREMIER Center. It is also Ugly Sweater Night, presented by The Salvation Army. Players will be wearing special ugly sweater jerseys that will be made available through a silent auction during the game. Santa Claus himself will be on hand and the whole night will have a holiday theme to it. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
