Real Monarchs News Release

SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 29, 2015) - Real Monarchs SLC return to USL action this Saturday, hitting the road to face defending USL champions Sacramento Republic FC at 8:30 p.m. MT at Bonney Field in Sacramento, Calif. Saturday's match will be streamed live on RealMonarchs.com and Sacramento Republic's YouTube page.

The Monarchs look to replicate the performance and the result of its April 29 home match against the reigning champs, as Freddy Juarez' team picked up all three points in a 1-0 win at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Monarchs lost twice and drawn once in league play during the month since that Sacramento contest, losing at Austin 3-2 on May 9, drawing Timbers 2 at home on May 16, and falling at Whitecaps FC 2 on last weekend. Real Monarchs also suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Wednesday night that ended their U.S. Open Cup run, after a 1-0 win the week before in Long Island that earned the club the right to host three days ago.

Real Monarchs (1-6-3, 6 points, 12th West) sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with 10 matches played. On several occasions this season, the young expansion team has been just minutes away from earning crucial points, prior to conceding late goals that have cost the team draws or wins. The Monarchs' most recent USL defeat came against Whitecaps FC 2 last Sunday when the team traveled to Vancouver and conceded two early goals. Monarchs MF Lucas Baldin converted a PK for his side to pull one back, but the equalizer never came.

Sacramento Republic FC (6-5-0, 18 points, 2nd West) enters Saturday's match after defeating Chula Vista FC 7-3 on Wednesday night in U.S. Open Cup action. The Republic's last league match saw the team fall 2-1 to Oklahoma City Energy FC. In that match Energy took an early 2-0 lead after MF Rodrigo Lopez (SAC) was shown a red card in the 8th minute of play. Sacramento netted a goal in the 62nd minute when Adnan Gabeljik finished his shot only 6 minutes after entering the match. The teams both ended the match with 10 men after Energy's Peabo Doue earned a second yellow in the 80th minute and was sent off.

Monarchs History v Sacramento Republic FC

Real Monarchs and Sacramento Republic FC have only met once in their history, that contest ending 1-0 in favor of the Monarchs. FW Max Rauhofer scored the game winner in the 68th minute after deflecting a shot from MF Fito Ovalle and redirecting it beyond GK Patrick McLain. GK Lalo Fernandez earned his second shutout of the season with three saves on the night.

Capital City Cup

Saturday's match will be Monarchs' third match in the Capital City Cup, a supporters-group competition between the five state capital-teams in the Western Conference. Monarchs hold a 1-1-0 record in the competition, defeating Sacramento Republic FC on April 29th and falling to Austin Aztex on May 9th. Real Monarchs currently sit in third place just below Oklahoma City Energy who moved into second place after their 2-1 win over Sacramento Republic on May 23rd.
