FC Montreal Visits Rochester Rhinos Saturday
May 29, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal will face the Rochester Rhinos for a third time this season, but a first on the road, on Saturday at 7:05pm, at Sahlen's Stadium.
In its 8th game of the USL season, FC Montreal will face a familiar opponent. The Rhinos won the two previous meetings in Montreal this season.
"It's three times in eight games against the league leaders," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "It's a solid and disciplined team, very focused on what they have to do. It's the reason why they are at the top of the standings."
"We know them well," said midfielder Zakaria Messoudi. "We saw a difference between the first and the second game and I think there was clear progression. We are better equipped to face them now with seven games of experience in the league."
Rochester is first in the USL with a record of 6-0-4, the only unbeaten team in league play. A reason for their excellent start has been their defensive efficacy. The Rhinos have allowed only four goals in 10 games this season.
On FC Montreal's side, after a tough beginning offensively, players are starting to be more comfortable on the ball. The team has scored four goals in its last three games.
"At the beginning of the season, we were more conservative," said Eullaffroy. "We didn't venture to push forward. Now, we believe in ourselves and we are more confident going forward. Our initiative, courage and ability to challenge our opponents are paying off. We have to keep doing this."
FC Montreal lost its last game 3-2 against the New York Red Bulls 2, despite a good performance as the team attempted a comeback towards the end of the game, but it was too little too late.
"It's positive to have scored two goals in the last game," explained Messoudi. We will keep creating opportunities. Scoring gives confidence to the team."
Keep in mind that Rochester is now playing in two tables. The American team won its U.S. Open Cup third round game last Wednesday, with a 3-1 victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders.
FC Montreal's next game will be played on June 6 at 6:30pm at Stade Saputo, against the New York Red Bulls 2. The game is open to the public and admission is free. It will also be streamed online at www.impactmontrea.com/fcmontreal.
