Rochester Rhinos News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Rhinos host FC Montreal on Saturday, May 30th 2015 at 7:05PM in Sahlen's Stadium.

The Rhinos enter the weekend undefeated and on top of the USL Eastern Conference table with a 6 - 0 - 4 record. Rochester's 22 points from their first ten matches of the 2015 season is the highest total in the 24 team USL. Saturday night's match will only be the third of the season for the Rhinos who have played eight of their first ten league matches away from Rochester.

Rochester is wrapping up a stretch of five matches in two weeks on Saturday night after playing midweek matches in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament each of the past two weeks. In their last match the Rhinos eliminated fellow USL side Harrisburg City Islanders in the Third Round on Wednesday, May 27th . A second yellow card and subsequent sending off for Rochester striker Steevan Humberto Fortes dos Santos in the 38th minute, and a 106th minute strike for Brett Jankouskas left the Rhinos down a man and down a goal on the road in Skyline Stadium. However, two goals and an assist in the last 14 minutes of added extra time from Jamaican rookie Asani Samuels - who was a full time college student on the campus of Canisius College as recently as two weeks ago - propelled Rochester through to the Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup in PPL Park on Tuesday, June 16th where they will play Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

"We've gotten through a difficult stretch with five games in two weeks relatively unscathed." Rhinos head coach Bob Lilley said. "We dropped some points in a couple of games where we had the lead, so that's disappointing at the time, but it's time to move on. Eight of our first ten league games were away from home, and one of our two Open Cup games was on the road, but we got the job done. Now we've got some home games. We need to get wins. We need to get three points."

Saturday night's match will be the third meeting between the Rhinos and FC Montreal this season. Jonny Mendoza scored the match winning goal in the 34th minute on the turf field at Saputo Stadium on Saturday, April 11th , and Christian Volesky added a second half brace to assure Rochester of all three points in a 3:0 victory. Rhinos goalkeeper Brandon Miller was credited with two saves to keep the clean sheet. Volesky scored two more goals in the Rhinos 2:1 victory in Montreal on May 2nd .

Volesky has four goals on the season, and he has scored all four against FC Montreal. The rookie from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville was the 2015 Major League Soccer Combine Most Valuable Player this past January before signing with the Rhinos in Lilley's March training camp.
