Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (May 29, 2015) - Saturday's 7:30 kickoff will be the third edition of the King's Cup between Louisville City FC (4-1-4, 16 points) and St. Louis FC (3-3-2, 11 points) this season. City is returning to Slugger following two road wins in the U.S. Open Cup, and a draw against St. Louis last Sunday.
City is riding a hot streak in their last five games including Cup play. The purple and gold have managed to outscore their opponents 13-3 over those five games, only conceding goals to rival, and tomorrow's opponent, St. Louis.
Since last Saturday, Louisville went on the road to face Indy Eleven in a U.S. Open Cup match. City would need extra time as Nate Polak scored in the 116th minute followed by Sidney Rivera in the 119th minute of the second extra time period giving City the 2-0 victory. The win has set up a match against the Chicago Fire on June 16th at 8:30 PM EST in Chicago.
St. Louis is also coming off of a win against NASL and newly announced MLS expansion club Minnesota United FC. Both clubs scored goals in the second half, but Bryan Gaul gave St. Louis the equalizer in the 79' minute. The goal would prove to be the one to send the match to extra time and onto Penalty Kicks in which St. Louis won (3-1), giving them the 2-1 victory. The win moved St. Louis onto face Sporting Kansas City in the Open Cup.
Saint Louis FC has added some new faces for the next three days. Former MLS MVP, Mike Magee, and Kingsley Bryce have been loaned from the Chicago Fire, and are expected to play on Saturday. With the news of two Fire loanees, Louisville City returning home for the first time in three games, and a lot of key victories as of lately, the crowd is expected to be a large one.
City will go on a two game road trip against FC Montreal and Rochester, before returning home to face the New York Red Bulls II Saturday, June 20th, at Slugger Field. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets in advance. Go to www.LouisvilleCityFC.com/tickets today to order yours.
