Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Real Monarchs SLC
May 29, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC return to USL action on Saturday, May 30, to take on Real Monarchs SLC at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
This will be the second meeting between Republic FC and Real Monarchs this season. The Monarchs won the first meeting 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on April 29. Monarchs forward Max Rauhofer scored the lone goal in the match in the 68th minute.
Republic FC enter the match following a 7-3 win over Chula Vista FC on Wednesday in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Five different Republic FC members scored in the match and set a new Republic FC record with seven goals scored in a single match.
Forward Adnan Gabeljic recorded the second Republic FC hat trick in the 2015 U.S. Open Cup and the fourth in club history with goals in the 42nd, 59th and 89th minutes. Gabeljic has now scored four goals in his last two matches and five goals in his last four appearances.
Defender Emrah Klimenta recorded his second assist of the 2015 season against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday, May 23. Klimenta has emerged as more of an offensive threat this season recording two assists and a goal through 11 matches. Klimenta scored two goals and recorded no assists in 26 USL appearances last season. Klimenta is also the only Republic FC player to appear in every Republic FC match this season.
Republic FC will be without their leading offensive player on Saturday as midfielder Rodrigo Lopez will begin a three USL-match suspension following a red card against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday, May 23. Lopez currently leads Republic FC with seven goals and three assists on the season.
Real Monarchs SLC enter the match following a 2-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on May 24. The Monarchs have gone 0-2-1 since beating Republic FC 1-0 on April 29, their only win in USL play in 2015.
The Monarchs have received a lot of offense from their midfield this season. Midfielder Fito Ovalle leads the club with two assists. Ovalle, 17, was recently signed as a homegrown player by Real Salt Lake, Real Monarchs SLC's parent club. Fellow midfielder Lucas Baldin, a fourth round MLS Superdraft pick by Real Salt Lake, has scored two goals in the last four matches and is second on the club in goals.
Monarchs forward Rauhofer, who scored the lone goal in the first matchup between the two sides on April 29, leads the Monarchs with three goals on the season. Rauhofer has scored two of his three goals in the last four matches.
Republic FC has played much better this season at Bonney Field than on the road, allowing just three goals in five home matches, while scoring 12. Republic FC has recorded three shutouts and scored three goals in three of their five home matches. Republic FC's four home wins are second only to Seattle Sounders FC 2 in the USL.
