After the game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of play, goalkeeper Mark Pais made one save in the penalty shootout while Brandon Barklage, Patrick Doody, and Oskar Gasecki all converted from the spot. With the win, STL FC moves on to face Sporting Kansas City on June 16.
THE OPPONENT: Louisville City FC also knocked off an NASL club in the Open Cup on Wednesday, defeating Indy Eleven 2-0 in extra time. Nate Polak and Sidney Rivera scored for LCFC, while goalkeeper Scott Goodwin posted the clean sheet. Louisville advances to play the Chicago Fire, Saint Louis' MLS affiliate, in the Open Cup 4th Round on June 16.
THE SERIES: Saturday's game will be the third of four meetings between Saint Louis and Louisville this season. It will also be the second meeting in six days between the USL Eastern Conference rivals. Last Sunday, the sides endured an hour-long weather delay and played to a 3-3 draw at Marshall Wireless Stadium in St. Louis. Making its second trip to Louisville on Saturday, Saint Louis FC will be looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat to Louisville in the teams' season opener on March 28 at Slugger Field.
BACK ON THE ROAD: This weekend's game will be the first road match for STL FC in more than a month. Saint Louis is coming off a five-game homestand that included three USL league games and two U.S. Open Cup fixtures. In its last away game, STL FC defeated Oklahoma City Energy FC 2-1 on April 25 at Taft Stadium.
