Rays Cruise Past Lynx 4-1

Augusta, GA Four different South Carolina Stingrays scored in a 4-1 win over the Augusta Lynx at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center. The Rays moved the Stingrays into sole possession of sixth place in the South Division with a record of 11-12-6 on the season, while the Lynx fell to 12-17-2.

"We needed a solid effort tonight after a tough loss in Gwinnett on Tuesday," commented Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "This is a nice win, hopefully we can keep things moving forward (tonight) against the Lynx at home.

The Stingrays jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period on goals by Ty Morris and Scott Corbett. Morris scored under two minutes into the game at 1:56 when Cail MacLean found him on the back door for this fourth of the night. Scott Corbett tipped an Evan Schwabe pass over the shoulder of Jason Wolfe at 6:38 to put the Stingrays up by two. Joe Pereira knocked a rebound past Stingrays goaltender Davis Parley at 7:06 to cut the Stingrays lead in half at 7:06.

The Rays added to their lead with a Craig Olynick goal at 9:54 of the second period. Olynick took a pass from Evan Schwabe and beat Wolfe with a slap shot into the upper left corner for his third goal of the season.

Marty Clapton's slap shot put the game out of reach when the veteran solved Wolfe for his seventh of the season at 8:17 of the third period.

Notes: The Stingrays announced this afternoon that goaltender Maxime Daigneault was called up to the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. Rookie Jeff Legue will represent the Stingrays at the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Bud Light in Fresno, CA on January 25th. Legue leads the Stingrays with 11 goals on the season.

The Stingrays will skate at home tonight against the Lynx at 6:00. The Rays will wear special Tuxedo Jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. After the game fans can enjoy a massive balloon drop. The Rays will wrap up the weekend on Sunday evening at 6:05 in Greenville against the Grrrowl.
