
Storm too much for Bombers

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers dropped a 5-3 loss against in-state rival Toledo Storm in front of 3,925 at the E.J. Nutter Center Friday night in the first game of a home and home series.
In the first period, it was Toledo that would score twice, as Ryan Reid (#5) scored the game's first goal at the 5:53 mark. Toledo would also notch the second goal of the game with less than a minute left in the period when Adam Keefe (#24) sent a power play goal to the back of the Bombers net. Toledo also out shot the Bombers 17-9 after the first.
Just 55 seconds into the period, Toledo's Jeff Attard (#18) scored the Storms second power play goal to bring their lead up to 3. The second period would also see the Bombers come alive, and after rebounding from the early Toledo goal, managed to pick up the pace. The Bombers managed their first goal of the game when SCOTT CAMERON scored off of assists from BRIAN GORNICK and ALEX JOHNSTONE at the 15:44 mark of the second period. The momentum of the period quickly changed in favor of the Bombers after this goal, as well as an increase in physicality, and with that, provided the Bombers with their second goal of the game. This time it was MARCO CAPRARA that notched the goal off of an assist by DOMINIC NOEL and ALEX JOHNSTONE to bring the game to within one.
The third period would see Toledo scoring two quick goals early in the period. Ken Magowan (#17) and Bracken Kerns (#6) picked up those points for the Storm. With less than 3 minutes remaining in regulation, the Bombers began a resurgence, and was able to score when JEREMY VAN HOOF found the back of the net off of assists from JAY LATULIPPE and MATT HERNEISEN. This would end the scoring for the game however, as time expired before the Bombers could muster another goal. In the end, it was the Toledo Storm out shooting the Bombers 35-31, and beating them 5-3. The two teams will rematch tomorrow (Saturday) night in Toledo at 6:00 pm, and will be carried live on 980HOMER, the sports animal.
