South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that Maxime Daigneault has been called up to the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. The Stingrays will look to sign an emergency back up goaltender for their three games this weekend.
Should the second year professional see action with the Caps, he would be the 285th ECHL player to play in the National League and the fifth South Carolina Stingrays to advance to hockey's highest level, following Martin Biron, Steve Shields, Sean Gauthier and David Cooper. He is being called to Washington, due to an injury.
Daigneault has a record of 10-9-4 this season with the Stingrays, along with a goals against average of 3.21 and a save percentage of .903%. The second round draft pick has a record of 6-2-1 in his last eight appearances for South Carolina.
"This is a nice opportunity for Maxime," commented Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Washington believes he has a bright future within the organization. This call up should give him a nice taste of what the game is like at the highest level."
Daigneault is the fourth significant call up for the Stingrays in the last week, joining Jonas Johansson, Robin Gomez and Derek Engelland. All four players have been promoted within the Capitals organization, with the previous three heading to Hershey, PA.
Fitzsimmons has signed Nick Harloff and Scott Corbett from Columbus of the SPHL for this weekend's action.
The Stingrays will play four games in the next five nights beginning in Augusta tonight. They will host the Lynx on Saturday evening at a special 6:00 start time. The Stingrays will wear special Tuxedo Jerseys on Saturday to celebrate New Years Eve. After a road game on New Years Day in Greenville, the Stingrays will host Charlotte on Tuesday.
A variety of season ticket and group ticket packages are still available. For ticket information contact the Stingrays office at 744-2248 or log on to www.stingrayshockey.com.
