Albany River Rats News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY - River Rats Goaltender Mike Murphy kept the Phantoms off-the-board until 14:09 of the third period and Albany cruised to a 4-1 final in Game Four of the Time Warner Cable Cup series Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Murphy made 20 saves in the contest and forward Stefan Chaput scored a goal and added an assist as Albany won its third-straight game. The River Rats earned a point in their fifth-straight contests and they look to earn a three-game weekend-sweep tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Times Union Center.
Albany led 2-0 heading into the final frame and Nicolas Blanchard gave his club a three-goal cushion at 4:28, tipping-home a Brett Carson slap shot for his second goal of the year. Stefan Legein potted Adirondack's only marker with 5:51 remaing, but Chaput reclaimed Albany's three-goal lead just 1:26 later to seal the win.
River Rats leading scorer Jerome Samson drew first blood in the opening period on Albany's first shot of the game at 10:32; Chaput and Jay Harrison assisted on Samson's eleventh of the year. Jacob Micflikier doubled Albany's lead at 8:44 of the middle frame for his fourth goal in just his seventh game as a River Rat. Forward Rob Hennigar tallied an assist on the score and now has a helper in all five of his games this season with Albany, good for the team's longest assist-streak this year.
Murphy earned his fifth win of the season as Albany improved to 13-10-1-2 this season. Phantoms goaltender Johan Backlund stopped 20-of-24 and took the loss as Adirondack dropped to 9-10-2-0. The River Rats out-shot the Phantoms 24-21 and went 0-for-7 on the power play; Adirondack was 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.
