Bulldogs Drop 6-5 Overtime Decision To Marlies

Toronto, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs lost 6-5 to the Toronto Marlies on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. The Bulldogs franchise record shutout streak ended at 207:21 when Toronto scored a first period goal.

The Marlies opened the scoring at 8:30 of the first period. Viktor Stalberg blasted a shot from the point that was tipped by Andre Deveaux. The puck proceeded to trickle through the pads of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Stalberg gave Toronto a 2-0 lead at 15:10. While shorthanded, Stalberg intercepted a pass from a 'Dogs player before skating in alone on Sanford. Stalberg snapped a shot that beat Sanford low on the right side.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard at 1:26 of the middle stanza. David Desharnais sent a pass to Mike Glumac, who skated down the right side boards. Glumac opted to shoot the puck, wristing a shot over the glove of Toronto starting goaltender Andrew Engelage.

The Marlies added their third goal at 1:32 middle frame. Former Bulldog Troy Bodie skated into Toronto's zone before rifling a shot over the glove of Sanford, off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

While on the power play, Desharnais made the game 3-2 at 4:20 of the second period. Desharnais stripped the puck from a Marlies' player before taking a shot that was saved by Engelage. The rebound bounced right back to Desharnais, who slid the puck between the legs of Engelage. J.T. Wyman tied the game at 5:46. Alex Henry sent a pass to Wyman, who skated down the right side boards before firing a shot on net. The puck bounced off the blocker of Engelage and into the back of the net.

Toronto took a 4-3 lead at 8:34 of the second stanza. Jonas Frogren blasted a shot that was saved by Sanford. Greg Scott grabbed the loose rebound before whacking the puck past a sprawled out Sanford.

The Bulldogs tied the game 4-4 at 7:10 of the third frame. Greg Stewart received a pass from Henry before skating into the Marlies' zone. Stewart dished the puck to Eric Neilson, who snapped a shot. The puck squeezed through Engelage's pads and into the back of the net.

Deveaux added his second goal of the game at 10:01 to give Toronto a 5-4 lead. Deveaux hammered a slapshot from the right circle that beat Sanford low on the blocker side.

Ryan Russell tied the game 5-5 at 14:04 of the final frame. Ben Maxwell controlled the puck behind the net before wrapping around and firing a shot that was stopped by Engelage. Russell grabbed the loose rebound before firing a shot over the blocker of Engelage.

Stalberg won the game for Toronto at 4:39 of the overtime period. Stalberg intercepted a Hamilton clearing attempt before firing a shot that beat Sanford low.
