(Rochester, NY)... The Abbotsford Heat used three-second period goals and two more in the third as the Rochester Americans dropped their second straight game tonight in a 6-2 loss at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The game was the first of a two-game set and the first of three straight tilts between the North Division rivals as the Amerks fell to 18-5-1-0 on the season.

Second-year pros Shawn Matthias and Keaton Ellerby scored Rochester's pair of goals as defenseman Jason Garrison assisted on both tallies. Amerks goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu made 30 saves in his first start of the season in the losing effort.

Abbotsford's Colin Stuart potted a pair of goals for the hometown Heat as Jamie Lundmark (1+1), Cam Cunning (1+1), Josh Meyers (0+2) and John Armstrong (0+2) each chipped in with two points each. Further, defenseman Jason Jaffray collected three assists and third-year netminder Matt Keetley earned just his second win of the season with a 19-save performance.

Rochester took an early 1-0 lead just over six minutes into the contest with Matthias' shorthanded tally after Michal Repik was sent off for hooking. Garrison and veteran forward Chris Taylor assisted on Matthias' third of the season before Taylor was ejected from the game following a 5:00-minute boarding major and an automatic game misconduct that accompanies the call.

With the assist, however, Taylor extends his point streak to four games (1+5) and now sits just three goals and one point away from moving ahead of Gordie Clark and Norm "Red' Armstrong for 14th and seventh on the all-time list, respectively. Tonight, he also leapfrogged Don Cherry's 390-game benchmark to take over the 11th spot on the franchise's all-time list. The 18-year pro is just three points shy of reaching the 1,000-point plateau and just 31 games away from the 1,200 professional games milestone.

On the ensuing power-play following Taylor's dismissal from the game, the Heat evened the score at 1-1 as Cunning scored his third of the season at 15:25 of the opening period to jumpstart a four-goal run. The game would remain knotted at one apiece at the end of one period of play.

Abbotsford came out flying in the second stanza, scoring three straight goals, one from Murray and back-to-back markers from Stuart, in a six-minute span. The Heat would maintain their 4-1 lead throughout the duration of the period, and ultimately the rest of the evening, as the Amerks would never again regain the lead.

Ellerby's third-period power-play goal at 13:06 of the final frame would cut Rochester's deficit in half, but the Heat quickly responded with a pair of power-play tallies of their own 44 seconds apart from Lundmark and Seabrook to secure the 6-2 win.

Rochester closes out its two-game set with Abbotsford and its season-long six-game road trip on Sunday, December 6th with 9:00 p.m. EST battle at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sport Centre. The rematch with the Heat will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
