Adirondack Phantoms News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY - Stefan Chaput had a goal and an assist to lead the Albany River Rats to a 4-1 win over the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday night during the Time Warner Cable Cup Series at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Jerome Samson struck first for Albany at 10:32 of the first period when Jay Harrison's shot from the point deflected off Stefan Chaput and fell right to Samson at the far post. Samson slammed the bounding puck into the net for his tenth goal of the year and a 1-0 River Rats lead.
Albany doubled their advantage at 8:44 of the second period as a similar rebound dropped to the stick of Jacob Micflikier and through forty minutes it was 2-0 River Rats.
Nicolas Blanchard added a third Albany goal at 4:28, but Adirondack would get on the board thanks to the efforts of Stefan Legein. The Phantoms right wing carried the puck out of the left wing corner and fired a wrist shot up over the glove of goaltender Mike Murphy for his eighth goal of the year. But Albany answered back 84 seconds later as Chaput made it 4-1 River Rats at 15:33.
Rookie goalie Mike Murphy stopped 20-of-21 shots to lead Albany to victory, helping them improve to 13-10-1-2 on the season. Johan Backlund finished with 20 saves on 24 shots as Adirondack dropped to 9-11-2-10 this year. The River Rats out-shot the Phantoms 24-21 in the game and went 0-for-7 on the power play; Adirondack was 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.
The Phantoms will travel to Springfield on Sunday, December 6th for a 3:00 pm matinee against the Falcons at the MassMutual Center. Adirondack's next home game is scheduled for Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 pm against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
