Gateway Grizzlies News Release
O'FALLON, MO - For the third time in the series, the Gateway Grizzlies and River City Rascals played an even, hard fought game at T.R. Hughes Ballpark that ended in a Rascals walk-off win. Chris Andreas hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Rascals a 6-5 win Friday night. The win gave the Rascals the series sweep.
River City (20-13) held a brief lead after scoring a run in the second on an Eric Williams sacrifice fly.
Gateway (16-17) scored a run in the third on two hits to tie the game at one. Jonathan Johnson drew a one out walk and advanced to second base on a groundout before Jerod Yakubik drove him home on a single.
Gateway scored three runs on three hits in the fourth to take a three-run lead. Gateway also walked four times in the inning, while Johnson recorded an RBI single and Antone DeJesus drove in two runs on a single.
The Grizzlies extended their lead to four runs in the fifth on a Jon Myers solo home run, his fifth of the season. Myers has hit all of his home runs on the road this season.
River City then chipped away at the Grizzlies lead, scoring two runs in the fifth, one in the eighth and two in the ninth on the Andreas walk-off home run, which came off Grizzlies closer Richard Barrett (0-3).
Gateway left 12 runners on base and were led by Yakubik's two hits.
The Grizzlies return to GCS Ballpark Saturday night for game one of a three-game series with the Southern Illinois Miners. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (5-1) makes the start for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
