Rascals Sweep Grizzlies with 3rd Straight Walkoff

River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - Unbelievable. With the Rascals down a run entering the last of the ninth inning, Chris Andreas hit a two-run homer to deep right-center field to complete the most improbable series between these two long-standing rivals as the Gateway Grizzlies were swept by River City with a walk-off hit each night of the series.

The Rascals (20-13) trailed 5-3 entering the eighth inning but scratched a run across on a Bobby Burk double, wild pitch, and steal of home to set up the drama in the ninth.

Charlie Lisk, who homered in the 11th Thursday night for the win, reached on an error to start the final inning, and after a popup and wild pitch, stood at second base with one out and Chris Andreas coming to the plate. He would drill a two-strike fastball to right-center that was gone off the bat to complete another improbable comeback.

River City took a 1-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly from Eric Williams after Burk doubled and Ben Hewett singled with one out. Gateway (16-17) would tie the score in the third and take a 4-1 lead in the fourth as Jason Sullivan struggled with his command, walking three in the inning, the final one following a two-run single that gave Gateway the 4-1 lead.

The Grizzlies would make it 5-1 in the fifth on a Jon Myers homerun, a St. Peters native, but the Rascals would respond in the bottom of the fifth when Curran Redal drilled a two-run shot to close within 5-3, but the River City would strand the bases loaded in the frame for the second time in the game.

River City's bullpen was sharp tonight, combining to pitch 5 1/3 innings of two-hit baseball with only the Myers homerun the only mistake.

River City has won four-straight as they welcome in the Normal CornBelters for a three-game series starting at 7:05 Saturday night.
