JOLIET SLAMMERS (15-17) vs. SCHAUMBURG BOOMERS (20-12)

Friday, June 22 - 7:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #33 - Home Game #18 (15-17), (7-10)

RHP #33 Jake Renshaw (0-1, 4.26 ERA) vs. RHP #30 Tyler Watkins (1-3, 3.62 ERA)

Last time out.

Steven Maxwell tossed seven and a third no-hit innings as the Joliet Slammers defeated the Schaumburg Boomers by a score of 2-1. Maxwell ended up going eight innings total, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three. Joliet scored two runs in the first and that was all they would need. Jimmy Waters singled to start the inning and stole second base. An Abel Nieves grounder moved him to third and with two away Erik Lis doubled him home. Kyle Maunus followed with a RBI double of his own to make the score 2-0. Schaumburg finally got a hit, and a run, in the eighth. Nick Kuroczko doubled for the first hit of the game and Chad Mozingo singled him to third. A RBI grounder scored the Boomers' lone run of the night. Amalio Diaz struck out the side in the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season. Cameron Roth took the loss for Schaumburg while Maxwell got his team-leading fourth win.

For Starters.

"Captain" Jake Renshaw's last start was on June 10 in the Slammers' 13-inning, 13-12 win over the London Rippers in Ontario. Renshaw went 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on two hits while striking out three. This is his third start of the season as he's been working to get back from an injury. Renshaw developed a loyal following among the Slammers' faithful in 2011 as Joliet flew a pirate flag ever time he started at Silver Cross Field. The "Captain's" home starts featured pirate themed sound effects and video board slides every time he struck a hitter out. Renshaw won his final seven starts of the regular season, finishing with a Frontier League best 13 victories. He was also extremely consistent last year for Joliet, never lasting fewer than five innings in the regular season. Renshaw tallied four complete games on the season, tying for third most in the league. He was a workhorse, leading the Slammers with 128 innings pitched. Renshaw was a 10th round draft pick out of Ventura College by the Chicago Cubs in 2006. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round in 2004 but did not sign. Renshaw spent two years with the Cubs organization and pitched two years at the high-A level with the Orioles organization. The right-hander put up excellent numbers in 2010 in the Golden Baseball league as he posted a 2.39 ERA in 16 appearances. He was a teammate of Slammers outfielder Zach Mandelblatt in 2010 in the GBL with the Orange County Flyers.

Rubber match.

For the second straight time against Schaumburg, the Slammers and the Boomers will face off in a rubber match in game three. Schaumburg took the first rubber match on June 13 by a final score of 9-1. Overall on the season, the Slammers are 1-3 in rubber matches, winning their most recent one by a final score of 3-1 over the River City Rascals on June 16 in O'Fallon.

Lis heating up.

Hitting Coach and Designated Hitter/1st Baseman Erik Lis got off to a slow start this season but recently he's started to tear the cover off the ball. Lis had hit safely in eight straight games and is hitting .412 over the past 10 games with a homer and six RBI. Overall on the season Lis has raised his average to .299 and has 3 HR and 15 RBI.

Mandelblatt up and down.

Zach Mandelblatt leads the Slammers in HR with 4 and is tied for the team lead in RBI with 16. But he is last on the team in batting average as he's only hitting .198 on the season

Give me some relief!

In 43.2 IP in May, Joliet's bullpen had an era of 1.88. In 68.2 IP in June, they have a 6.29 ERA.

Error indicator.

The Slammers are 3-13 in games when they make an error. They are 12-4 in games when they do not.

Out-hit.

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 13-4, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 1-13.
