Ogden Raptors News Release
Home Runs Ogden-Justin Chigbogu (13) Orem-Wendell Soto (4) The Ogden Raptors won the first I-15 Classic, beating the Orem Owlz 9-4 Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
The Raptors used a six-run seventh inning to take the lead. Trailing 3-2, Jimmy Allen started the inning with a single to center and advanced to second on a groundout. Colin Hering then hit a grounder to pitcher Arjenis Fernandez. Fernandez caught Allen in a rundown between second and third. After a couple of throws, Allen eluded a tag from Fernandez and slid into third with Hering advancing to second base. Cody Bellinger then hit an infield single to second to score Allen and tie the game.
Justin Chigbogu then hit a three-run home run to left field to take the lead. Chigbogu's homer was his league-leading 13th of the season.
The Raptors weren't done though. Mike Ahmed kept the inning going with a single to center and also stole second. Andrew Godbold followed with a triple into the right-field corner to plate Ahmed. Goldbold then scored on a wild pitch to give the Raptors an 8-3 lead.
Chigbogu's 13 home runs tie him with 2005's Russ Mitchell and Drew Locke and 2011's Scott Schebler and O'Koyea Dickson for the seventh-most homers in a season by a Raptor.
Brian Cavazos-Galvez has the Raptors' record with 18 home runs, set in his MVP season of 2009.
Trevor Oaks earned his third win Saturday. In three innings, the right-hander allowed just one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
The Raptors will enjoy an off-day Sunday before hosting a four game series with the Missoula Osprey, starting Monday. Jeff Brigham takes the mound for Ogden against Missoula's Dallas Newton. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
