Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

LAST GAME: The Idaho Falls issues surfaced early in the ballgame in a 7-4 loss to Grand Junction. Brandon Downes began the contest with a double, and got to third on a fielding error by Yonathan Daza. However, the Chukars couldn't bring him in. Fielding proved to be a problem in the first inning as well. Brawlun Gomez misplayed a ball off a bounce in the outfield, allowing Rockies runners to get into scoring position with two outs. Hamlet Marte followed with a two run single off of Jake Newberry to hop in front 2-0. Grand Junction struck with a three run eighth.

WILD'N OUT VS OGDEN: The Chukars made headlines outside of Idaho with the game July 29th against Ogden. Idaho Falls won on a walk off double by Brandon Thomasson in the 16th inning, a game that took 5:29. However, more noteworthy was the fight that took place in the top of the 10th. Justin Chigbogu struck out for the Raptors, and had some words for catcher Pedro Gonzalez. The benches emptied and the managers exchanged in a heated verbal argument. Raptors skipper "Black" Jack McDowell proceeded to punch Chukars manager Omar Ramirez, which ignited a fight. Multiple punches were thrown in the initial outburst, and in a couple scuffles that followed. Nine people were ejected during the 25-minute delay. Eleven people (five Chukars) were tossed in total.

LEAGUE PUNISHMENTS: The Pioneer League announced the punishments for the Chukars role in the Tuesday fight. Outfielder Brawlun Gomez and pitcher Cruz Guevara have been deemed "Instigators and/or Combatants" and have been suspended three games and fined. Pitcher Brooks Pounders has also been deemed an "Instigator and/or Combatant", and will miss one start, while being fined as well. The suspensions will be served during games of August 4, 5, and 6th. Further fines and coach's discipline are still being determined, as well as potential appeals.

WRONG WAY CHUKARS: The Chukars have lost six of their past seven games, including 3 in a row. The only win during the stretch came in 16 innings against Ogden. The last two nights, errors and lack of clutch hitting has doomed the Greybirds. Idaho Falls tied their season high with four errors each of the past two games. Also, the team has combined to hit 5-33 with runners in scoring position in the last two contests.
