Rapdiz win in dramatic fashion

(OTTAWA, ON) Monday, July 14, 2008 - Trying to even the series at one game apiece, the Ottawa Rapidz took on the Quebec Capitales on Monday night at Rapidz Stadium. The Rapidz won the game in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the tenth inning by a score of 2-1 in front of 1,463 excited fans at Rapidz Stadium. Tonight also featured "CHEO Gate Night" at the park where 50% of all the game proceeds will be donated to the CHEO foundation.

Starting for the Rapidz was Ottawa-native Mike Kusiewicz who pitched in his 200th career game and was credited with a no decision in the win. For the Rapidz, Reid Price (1-0) earned the win in his second game as a Rapid pitching 1.0 inning, allowing zero runs, hits, walks and no strikeouts. Mark James (3-1) is credited with the loss allowing one run (earned) on three hits with one walk and one strikeout in 2.2 innings of relief.

The Capitales opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. With a double by Eddie Lantigua and consecutive singles by Patrick Scalabrini and Alex Nunez, Quebec jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

The Rapidz tied the game in the bottom of the eighth at one after Jereme Milons and Jabe Bergeron singled with two outs, followed by two consecutive walks to score the run, tying the game at one.

The score remained tied at one until the bottom of the tenth inning when Jabe Bergeron hit a double to the left field wall to score Jereme Milons from first base for his second run of the game for the win.

The Rapidz face their national rivals for the rubber match Tuesday, July 15 at 7:05 as they look for their first series win of the season. Tomorrow also features the "HOPE Volleyball After Party" at Rapidz Stadium with all HOPE Beach Volleyball participants given a voucher to receive two free tickets for Tuesday's game. Pitching for the Rapidz will be North Gower, ON native Fraser Robinson (2-4, 5.15 ERA) against two-time player of the week Luis Valdez (7-1, 1.68 ERA) for the Capitales.
