Johnny Pesky to Attend Wednesday's Tornadoes Game
July 14, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Pesky will be at the ballpark in conjunction with Unum's annual Big Brother/Big Sister "Big/Little" event. He will be on the field with them for their opening ceremonies (all "littles" throw a first pitch to their "bigs") and he will be throwing out a first pitch himself. Pesky will not be available for a meet and greet or autographs.
Pesky, 88, has been tied to the Red Sox for over 65 years. He played with Boston from 1942-1952 (losing three full seasons to World War II from 1943-1945), led the American League in singles each of his first three seasons, and was selected to the 1946 All-Star Team. Pesky returned to the Red Sox organization in 1969, and has spent the nearly 40 years since as a color commentator, coach, instructor and special assistant for the Red Sox "Mr. Red Sox" may be most famous for the rightfield foul pole that bears his name
