December 15, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
New York, December 15, 2009 - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward P.A. Parenteau has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Parenteau, 26, has skated in 14 games with the Rangers this season, registering one goal and four points. He tallied his first career NHL goal in his Rangers debut on October 28 at the NY Islanders, and recorded his first NHL multi-point performance with two assists on November 23 against Columbus. Parenteau returns to Hartford where he has tallied 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points, along with 22 penalty minutes in 13 games this season. He was tied for the AHL lead in goals and ranked second in the league in points at the time of his recall on November 13. In addition, Parenteau ranked second in the league with six power play goals and was tied for third with six power play assists. He is in the midst of a seven-game AHL point streak dating back to October 23, registering six goals and 13 points during the stretch. He has registered seven multi-point efforts this season, including his first hat trick as a Wolf Pack player on October 10 against Springfield. Last season, Parenteau finished ninth in the AHL in points with 29 goals and 78 points, and was named a First-Team AHL All-Star.
The Hull, Quebec native was acquired by the Rangers from the Chicago Blackhawks on October 11, 2007, in exchange for a conditional draft pick. He was originally Anaheim's ninth round selection, 264th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
The Blueshirts return to action tomorrow, December 16, when they will face off against the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m.), in the first game of a home-and-home set. Prior to the game, the Rangers morning skate is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the MSG Training Center. This is the second of six meetings with the Islanders this season, and the first at MSG. The Rangers posted a 5-1-0 record against the Islanders last season, including a 2-1-0 mark at MSG. The Blueshirts' penalty kill held the Islanders scoreless in 16 attempts in the season series. The game will be televised live on MSG Network and can be heard on 1050 ESPN Radio.
