Leighton Claimed On Re-Entry Waivers By Flyers

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that goaltender Michael Leighton was claimed on re-entry waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Leighton, 28, was assigned to Carolina's American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany River Rats, on Dec. 12th after clearing waivers last week. The Petrolia, Ont., native played in seven games for the Hurricanes this season, posting a 1-4-0 record and a 4.29 goals-against average. Since turning professional in 2001-02, Leighton (6'3", 186 lbs.) has gone 18-35-15 with a 3.10 goals-against average in 76 NHL career regular-season games with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina. The Blackhawks drafted Leighton in the sixth round, 165th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
