Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (19-8-2-2, 42 points) were defeated by the Houston Aeros (14-12-2-1, 31 points) 5-2 in front of 4,570 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Tuesday night. Houston right wing Jon DiSalvatore scored the game-winning goal at 10:51 of the third period, lifting the Aeros to their first regulation win over Texas this season. Texas left wing Francis Wathier and defenseman Maxime Fortunus each scored in the loss. Stars goalie Matt Climie (8-7-2) stopped 13 Houston shots in the defeat. Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz (5-7-0) made 12 saves in his first win against Texas. Texas will play in Houston at 7:35 pm on Friday night.
Texas scored the lone goal of the first period at 12:54. Maxime Fortunus fired a slapshot above Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. Both Colton Scevior and Scott McCullough contributed assists on the defenseman's fifth goal of the year.
In the second period, the Aeros got on the board during a power-play opportunity at 8:25. Houston winger Duncan Milroy slid in a rebound off of Stars goalie Matt Climie, tying the game 1-1. At 12:57, the Stars regained the lead when winger Francis Wathier ripped a shot from the right-wing faceoff for a 2-1 score. Forward Perttu Lindgren assisted Wathier's eighth goal of the season. Just 3:01 later, Houston countered to tie the game 2-2. Aeros' center Chad Rau sent a slapshot past Climie from the top of the left-wing circle.
Houston took their first lead at 10:51 of the third period. Jon DiSalvatore sent a backhand shot over the shoulder of Climie for his sixth goal this season. Houston's Jean-Michel Daoust increased the Aeros lead to 4-2 with 2:54 remaining, scoring his tenth goal of the year. Chad Rau sealed the 5-2 with an empty-net goal at 19:16.
Texas will play a road game in Houston on Friday, Dec. 18 at 7:35 PM. Texas will return home to host Grand Rapids on Saturday, Dec.19 at 7:00 PM. On the 19th, the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Christmas Ornament. The team will hold its first Teddy Bear Toss, where fans may bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice to benefit the Blue Santa program. The Stars will travel to San Antonio on Sunday, Dec.27 to play the Rampage at 3:00 PM. Texas returns to Cedar Park to take on Syracuse on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 PM.
