Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - The Lowell Devils scored five power play goals and Cory Murphy recorded a team season best four assists in a 6-1 drubbing of the Springfield Falcons on Tuesday at the Tsongas Arena. Both feats tied the team records set by the Devils and Olivier Magnan on Feb. 26, 2008 at Manchester. Not lost in the 8:49 scoring was Alexander Vasyunov's first hat trick in North America.

With the contest tied 1-1 after one, Lowell's power play converted three times in the second period to help pull away from Springfield. Brad Snetsinger started it off on a give-and-go at the near circle with Matt Halischuk before beating Jean-Phillipe Levasseur from in close at 8:49.

The Devils would then get two consecutive 5-on-3 advantages late in the second and make the Falcons pay both times. Halischuk swooped in to find a loose puck bouncing between the hash marks before firing it home. Liam Reddox cross-checked Nick Palmieri after the goal to put Lowell up two men once again, and it was Vasyunov striking 33 seconds later, digging the puck from a scramble in front and calmly tucking it inside the left post.

Vasyunov completed his three-goal game with five minutes remaining as he cut into the slot and fluttered a shot over the pad of Levasseur to put the Devils up 5-1. It was the only even-strength marker for either team in the contest.

Palmieri added the record-tying power play tally with 3:16 left in regulation.

Skating with the man-advantage, the Devils struck first in the contest when Vasyunov took a step above the goal line and squeezed the puck past the paddle of Levasseur at 6:49 of the period.

Springfield responded on the power play less than four minutes later to make it 1-1 when Bill Thomas banged home a rebound after Mike McKenna stoned Colton Fretter from the slot. McKenna would otherwise finish with 21 saves for his tenth win of the season.
