Kitchener Rangers News Release

Rookie Mason Kohn scored his fifth goal of the season in the Kitchener Rangers' 3-2 loss to the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. Veteran centre Matia Marcantuoni also scored for the Rangers, extending his recent point streak to a sixth game.

The Rangers opened the scoring 3:20 into the first period. Justin Bailey's shot was tipped in front of the net by rookie Mason Kohn. The Florida native's fifth of the year was also his second point in as many games. The tally was also assisted by Curtis Meighan, the veteran pivot's third helper in his last two outings.

Oshawa responded with a power play goal in the latter half of the frame. Dylan Smoskowitz snapped a shot between the pads of Rangers starter Matthew Greenfield, earning his 25th of the season. Cole Cassels and draft-eligible winger Michael Dal Colle picked up the assists.

Kitchener led shots on goal 15-8 after 20 minutes.

Matia Marcantuoni put the Rangers back in front just two minutes into the second period, capitalizing on an early man-advantage. Greenfield started the play, chipping the puck ahead for defenceman Max Iafrate and the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect picked up a rebound, hammering it past Ken Appleby for his 10th of the year and second in as many games.

Smoskowitz's second power play goal of the game pulled the Generals even with less than five minutes remaining before intermission. The overage winger's tally was assisted by rearguard Chris Carlisle and Philadelphia Flyers prospect Scott Laughton.

Oshawa out-shot the Rangers 12-3 in the second period.

Cassel's 18th goal of the season was the game winner, scored 4:22 into the final frame. The Vancouver Canucks prospect picked up a loose puck and pushed it behind Greenfield's right skate, with assists from Smoskowitz and Dal Colle, their third and second points of the night, respectively.

Kitchener held a 14-9 shots on goal advantage in the third period, finishing with a 32-29 overall lead.

Each team finished with one win in the season series.
