Wolves Blanked by Troops

The Sudbury Wolves were in North Bay Thursday evening for an important match up with the Battalion. Prior to the game, the Wolves sat just two points ahead of North Bay for 1st place in the Central division.

The first period saw a lot of physical action, including a pair of fights, however it remained scoreless. Shots on goal after the first were 8-5 in favour of the Battalion.

The game remained scoreless until 15 minutes into the second frame when Barclay Goodrow put the puck past Wolves netminder Franky Palazzese to give the Battalion a 1-0 lead. The Battalion led shots on goal after the second, 20-14 and would not look back.

The Battalion took a 2-0 lead just over 3 minutes into the final frame. The Wolves put on the pressure in the third, however weren't able to come away with a goal, being shutout for the second game in a row. Wolves forward, Mathew Campagna received a penalty shot 14 minutes into the frame, however lost the puck after he went to slide it past the Battalion goalie, Jake Smith. Final shots on goal were 31-25 in favour of the Battalion.

The Wolves will look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to St. Catherines to visit the Niagara IceDogs. Game time is 7:00pm. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by tuning into KFM 95.5 with Stew Kernan and Mike Poirier.
