Windsor Spitfires News Release

Penalty trouble proved costly at the Hershey Centre on Friday night, as the Spitfires dropped a 3-2 decision to the Mississauga Steelheads.

The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for a Windsor (32-18-2-0) club that failed to make up any ground on the West Division leading Soo Greyhounds, who lost 5-1 to the Whalers in Plymouth.

Brett Foy scored the eventual game winner on the power play at the 16:45 mark of the second period.

Jared Walsh and Andrew Goldberg had the other goals for Mississauga (21-29-1-3), which snapped a two-game skid.

Sam Povorozniouk (14) and Trevor Murphy (7) scored for the Spitfires. Murphy's tally pulled Windsor within a goal with the man advantage near the midway mark of the third period. But they'd get no closer, as Spencer Martin made 27 saves, including nine in the final 20 minutes. Alex Fotinos was the hard luck loser, making 24 saves in the Windsor goal.

The Spits wrap the weekend Sunday as the North Bay Battalion visit the WFCU Centre (2:05 pm).
