Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, NC --- Kevin Randel drove in BJ Garbe with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Carolina ended five hours at Five County Stadium with an 8-7 win over Mobile.

The game, which took a season-long three hours and 46 minutes to play, was interrupted by a rain delay in the eighth inning which lasted an hour and 22 minutes. Randel's hit came on a 2-2 pitch from Leo Rosales (L, 0-3) with the bases loaded and one out. Rosales had hit Garbe, then surrendered a single to Lee Mitchell, who advanced to second when Garbe beat the throw to third base. Angel Molina was intentionally walked ahead of Randel.

The game saw its fair share of controversy and excitement. Mobile manager Gary Jones and Carolina pitching coach Rich Gale were ejected during the game. Jones argued that a pinch-double by Randel in the seventh inning hooked against the wall in foul territory before ricocheting into right field. The call stood, then Carolina proceeded to score six runs to take a 7-4 lead. Gale was ejected following the rain delay by the home plate umpire for arguing a ball-strike call in the top of the ninth.

Carolina has taken three of four from Mobile and will close down a 10-game homestand on Saturday night with Ben Julianel (0-3, 2.17) starting at 7:15 PM ET.
