Lookouts defeat Smokies, 3-2

May 6, 2006 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The Lookouts do it again, coming from behind to defeat the Smokies, 3-2. The Smokies got on the board with their first run in the fourth inning after Jesus Cota drew a two-out walk. He then came around to score on a RBI double by Agustin Murillo.

After not scoring a run through the first six innings, the Lookouts' bats woke up in the seventh inning. Noochie Varner led the inning off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice by Anderson Machado. Luis Bolivar followed with a walk, and Varner moved to third on ball four, which was a wild pitch. Javier Colina came in to pinch hit for relief pitcher Brad Salmon, and promptly became the hero when he drilled a three run home run off the scoreboard.

The Smokies tried to make things interesting after posting a run in the eighth inning. However, Lookouts' closer David Shafer came in and slammed the door shut, earning his league leading 11th save of the season. Brad Salmon (2-1) earned the win in relief and despite a stellar outing; Smokies' starter Ross Ohlendorf suffered his third loss of the season.

The Lookouts are back in action again tomorrow at Bellsouth Park, as they begin a five game home stand against the Mobile BayBears. First pitch is at 6:15.
