Rampage Slip Past Stars, 3-2

SAN ANTONIO (November 13, 2011) - The San Antonio Rampage slipped past their in-state rival Texas Stars with a 3-2 come-from-behind win in front of a crowd 5,735 on Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center.

Left wing Francis Wathier put Texas on the board first with a power-play goal at the 16:49 mark of the first period. Wathier got his stick on a shot from the point by defenseman Jordie Benn and the deflected puck found its way past Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage. Right wing Tomas Vincour picked up the secondary assist on Wathier's fifth goal of the season.

San Antonio even the score with a goal from center Tim Kennedy 14:36 into the second when Kennedy wheeled out from the right corner and took a shot past a screened Stars goalie Richard Bachman for his first goal of the season. Kennedy's shot found an opening in between Bachman and the right post to knot the score at 1-1. Center Brian Sutherby and defenseman Colby Robak picked up assists on the tying score.

Center Mark Cullen gave the Rampage a 2-1 edge right before the second period expired with his first goal of the season. Right wing Bill Thomas forced a turnover in the Stars zone and fed defenseman Roman Derlyuk at the top of the left circle. Bachman stopped Derlyuk's shot but Cullen batted the rebound out of mid air and into the net to give San Antonio their first lead at 18:40 of the middle frame.

San Antonio made it 3-1 when forward Scott Timmins cashed in on a rebound chance just over two minutes into the third stanza. Timmins was the beneficiary of an offensive rush by defenseman Evan Oberg, who carried the puck over the blue line and took a backhand that went off of Bachman's pads. The rebound came out to Timmins, who fired the puck into the net for his third score of the year. Forward David Marshall, who was called up to the team this morning, notched his first helper of the season with the secondary assist.

Vincour brought the Stars to within one, 3-2, with a power-play goal at 7:46 of the third. Wathier started the play by corralling a loose puck in the Rampage zone and feeding right wing Cotlton Sceviour. Sceviour quickly sent a pass to Vincour at the top of the left circle and Vincour one-timed a shot that beat Markstrom to his right for his fourth goal in three games against San Antonio.

Markstrom made 28 saves on 30 Stars shots in the San Antonio victory while Bachman stopped 25 of the 28 Rampage shots he faced.

The Rampage (5-8-0-0) are back in action on Tuesday morning for Cool School Education Day with a 10:30 a.m. puck drop against the Abbotsford Heat. More than 8,000 students are expected to attend the Rampage's second annual kid's day game.
