Nilsson Carries Sound Tigers to 4-3 Win Over Bears

HERSHEY, PA (Nov. 13, 2011) - David Ullstrom's sixth goal in six games turned out to be the game-winner as Anders Nilsson earned first star honors with 35 saves and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Hershey Bears 4-3 at Giant Center on Sunday evening. The Sound Tigers improve to 8-6-1-0 with the win. Hershey falls to 7-4-3-0.

Both sides saw multiple scoring chances in the opening frame and the Bears were first to get on the scoreboard. Following a Justin DiBenedetto tripping penalty, Chris Bourque fired from the center point past Anders Nilsson for seventh goal of the season to give Hershey the 1-0 advantage 8:42 into the opening frame. The Sound Tigers evened the score with 4:51 left in the first period after they were awarded a penalty shot when Brett Fleming covered the puck in the crease with his hand. New York Islanders 2010 first round pick Nino Niederreiter skated in on Holtby, deked multiple times and lifted the puck from his backhand into the net for his third goal in three games to tie the game at one.

The Sound Tigers took the lead via the power play 11:29 into the second period. After Hershey was stopped on a shorthanded rush, the Sound Tigers countered and Tim Wallace put the visitors ahead with a shot that beat Holtby from the right circle to make the score 2-1. Jacob Micflikier countered just 71 seconds later when he found himself all alone in front of Nilsson and scored his seventh goal of the year to even the score 2-2.

The score stayed tied until the midway mark of the third period. The Sound Tigers had killed two Hershey power plays including a 5-on-3 advantage for the Bears, and Bridgeport was shorthanded once more but took the lead. Micheal Haley led a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush into the Hershey zone and fed Tomas Marcinko, who beat Holtby high for his third goal of the year and the Sound Tigers first shorthanded goal of the 2011-12 campaign to give Bridgeport the 3-2 lead. Ullstrom carried the puck coast to coast to make the score 4-2, weaving through the neutral zone and around a Hershey defenseman for his 10th goal of the season at 13:46 of the third.

Hershey came within a goal when Dmitry Orlov scored with just over two minutes left in regulation with the extra attacker on the ice, but Nilsson and the Sound Tigers defense held off a final push from the Bears as Bridgeport came away with the 4-3 win.

Sunday afternoon's win was the 10th straight one-goal game for the Sound Tigers; they are 6-3-1-0 in that 10-game span. Sunday's win also marked the first win for the Sound Tigers in Hershey since Nov. 3, 2007.

The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday when they travel to the XL Center to face the Connecticut Whale at 7:00 p.m.
