San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO – Mar. 10, 2005 – The San Antonio Rampage announced today that their Spurs themed hockey jerseys, with only the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) logo on them, raised $18,700 at the team's jersey auction held after the Saturday, March 5 game against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Bruce Bowen Foundation, which provides scholarships, tuition and helps those less fortunate.

The Rampage made history as the only American Hockey League (AHL) club to wear special NBA jerseys. The auction money raised was the second largest amount this season, behind the January 28 Military themed jersey auction which raised $20,000 and benefited four local military charities.

Rampage right wing Juraj Kolnik and defenseman Jeremy Swanson (who has the same jersey number, 21, as Spurs star Tim Duncan) garnered the most money at the auction, both raising $1,300 each. Other players' jerseys that went over $1,000 were center Greg Jacina ($1,125), defensemen Victor Uchevatov ($1,100) and Jay Bouwmeester ($1,050).

The Rampage will don special St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys tomorrow night when they host the Cleveland Barons at 7 p.m. All the proceeds will benefit the Spurs Foundation, which will go towards purchasing Rampage tickets for underserved area youth. Rampage center Serge Payer's jersey proceeds will benefit his foundation, the Serge Payer Foundation, which helps raise money for research and treatment for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)—a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.

In total, the Rampage have raised $67,050 for local charities after four auctions. The Rampage opened the New Year with an auction benefiting the Spurs Foundation, which raised $12,375 that purchased Rampage tickets for underserved area youth. On January 21, the Rampage hosted a Salute to the Badges Night and raised $15,975 with the proceeds benefiting the Alamo Area Fire and Police Memorial.

The bidding for each auction took place at the Express-News Headlines in the SBC Center after the games ended.
