Edmonton Road Runners & Corus Entertainment Band Together For RCMP
March 10, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Edmonton Road Runners News Release
The wives and girlfriends of the Edmonton Road Runners and Corus Entertainment â the home of Joe FM, 630 CHED, CISN Country, and Cool 880, have banded together to raise funds for the RCMP Memorial Fund, in memory of the four fallen constables in Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
Starting on Friday, March 11th, donations will be accepted for the RCMP Memorial Fund at all Game On Sports locations, The Oilers Store in Kingsway Garden Mall, Corus Studios, and the Road Runners office. Fans who donate more than $10 will receive a complimentary Edmonton Road Runners bracelet, designed in the same style as the Lance Armstrong âLive Strong' bracelets.
"When we heard about the tragedy in Mayerthorpe, we knew that we had to get involved," said Liz Thompson, wife of Road Runners defenseman, Rocky Thompson. Liz and the other Road Runners wives and girlfriends will lead the fundraising charge for the team. "So many of our players have come up through the minor hockey system playing in small towns that we've seen firsthand the good work that the RCMP do."
"This was a senseless tragedy that deserved a strong response," added Doug Rutherford, General Manager of Corus Entertainment. "We want to do everything in our power to ensure that the families of the fallen constables know that we, and the community around us, support them."
A total of 5,000 Edmonton Road Runners bracelets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. As well as helping to raise donations for the RCMP Memorial Fund, the Edmonton Road Runners will also sport commemorative decals on their helmets for the remainder of the regular season.
