Crunch Acquire Defenseman Jason Beckett on Loan From Houston

Syracuse, NY (March 10, 2005) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they acquired defenseman Jason Beckett on loan from Houston (AHL) in exchange for loaning left wing Jeremy Reich to the Aeros.

"Jeremy gave his heart and soul to this team for five years and we wish him the best of luck in the future," said Howard Dolgon, Syracuse Crunch President and CEO. "It was a situation of, when healthy, having too many veterans combined with a desire to bolster our defensive unit for the playoff run."

Beckett, 24, has appeared in 57 games with Pensacola (ECHL) this season, recording 9 goals, 16 assists and 112 penalty minutes. In 229 career AHL games with Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Houston, Beckett has tallied 10 goals, 31 assists and 472 penalty minutes. A native of Lethbridge , Alberta, Beckett was selected by Philadelphia in the second round, 42nd overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Reich, 26, has appeared in 50 games for Syracuse this season, recording 4 goals, 5 assists and 189 penalty minutes. Through 315 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Reich has tallied 47 goals, 71 assists and 820 penalty minutes. He made his National Hockey League debut with Columbus on January 20, 2004, and recorded his first NHL point (an assist) the following night vs. St. Louis. In nine career NHL games, all with Columbus, Reich tallied one assist and 20 penalty minutes. A native of Craik, Saskatchewan, Reich was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 17, 2000.
