March 10, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON â The Binghamton Senators announced today that Don Biggs, Dallas Gaume and Brad Jones have been selected as the Class of 2005 by the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame committee. The trio will be honored at a ceremony prior to the Senators game against the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. on March 19th at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Biggs still holds the American Hockey League record for scoring the most points in a single season. In 1992-93 the forward recorded 138 points (54 goals, 84 assists) on one of the most prolific teams in league history and was awarded the AHL's John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the leading scorer of the regular season and the Les Cunningham Award as the league's most valuable player. The Binghamton Rangers had 124 points in the standings that season setting a record that remains intact.
The 1992-93 season was Biggs' second in Binghamton and the best of his nine seasons in the AHL. He ranks 21st in league history with 692 points and 25th with 273 goals. During his AHL career Biggs was called up for 12 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League. Biggs left Binghamton and joined the Cincinnati Cyclones of the International Hockey League after his second season and still lives in Ohio where he works for an electrical distributor and operates his own hockey school since retiring from the sport after the 2001-02 season.
One year after the Minnesota North Stars made Don Biggs the 156th overall choice of the NHL entry draft, Brad Jones was selected with the same pick by the Winnipeg Jets. After playing parts of six NHL seasons as a winger with the Jets, Los Angeles Kings and the Flyers, Jones came to Binghamton and spent the 1995-96 season playing for the Rangers. He scored 25 goals and 27 assists in 62 games that season. After spending a year playing in Germany he returned to the Binghamton area and scored 65 points in 55 games for the B.C. Icemen of the United Hockey League.
The 1997-98 season was also his introduction to coaching as he served as a player-assistant coach for the Icemen. He was promoted to the head coaching position following the 1997-98 campaign and spent four seasons as the head coach of the Icemen compiling a record of 156 wins, 111 losses and 29 overtime losses. The veteran of 148 National Hockey League games is now the vice president of hockey operations for the United Hockey League. The Detroit, Mich. area native is also a member of the University of Michigan Hockey Hall of Fame.
Dallas Gaume starred as a forward for the Binghamton Whalers in the mid-1980s. In four seasons with the Whalers he registered 261 points (91 goals, 170 assists) and played more regular season games than any other player in Whaler history (273). Gaume earned one call up to the NHL where he scored two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in four games during the 1988-1989 season. Gaume spent six seasons as a player in Norway after leaving the Binghamton Whalers at the conclusion of the 1989-1990 season.
Gaume is now an assistant coach for the Red Deer Rebels in the Canadian junior hockey ranks near his hometown of Innisfail, Alberta. His duties with the Rebels will prevent Gaume from attending the ceremony.
Don Biggs and Brad Jones will be guests of honor at the Hall of Fame dinner in the Arena Club on the third floor of the Arena prior to the game. Cocktails and a meet and greet will take place at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 5:30. Tickets to the dinner cost $25 each and can be purchased through the end of the second intermission of the B-Sens game against Bridgeport on Wednesday, March 16th. Tickets may be purchased at the Senators' third floor executive offices or by calling (607) 722-SENS.
