March 20, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (25-33-8-0) shut out the Central Division-leading Grand Rapids Griffins (41-21-1-1) 2-0 in front of 5,620 humans and 327 dogs on Pucks & Paws night at the AT&T Center. Spencer Martin stopped all 31 shots he saw and added an assist to earn the First Star of the Game, while Sam Henley and Nikita Zadorov each tallied a goal, earning the Second and Third Star of the Game, respectively.
Henley got the Rampage on the board early, scoring a shorthanded goal just over three minutes into the game to give San Antonio a 1-0 lead, which they would hold heading into the first intermission.
After outshooting the Griffins 15-6 in the opening period, the Rampage were outshot 9-7 in a scoreless second stanza, holding onto a one-goal lead entering the final frame.
Early in the third, Andrew Agozzino won a faceoff and sent the puck to Zadorov, who buried it past Jake Paterson to give San Antonio a 2-0 lead just 23 seconds into the period. The Griffins sent 16 pucks toward Martin's net in the last 20 minutes of play, but the recently recalled goaltender stood tall, earning his second AHL shutout.
The Silver and Black outshot Grand Rapids 41-31 and held the Griffins scoreless on four power-play opportunities. San Antonio finished scoreless on two opportunities with the man advantage.
Notes
The Rampage's 19 shots on goal in the third period sets a new season high for shots in a period... San Antonio's 41 shots on goal tied a season high for the Rampage, matching a Jan. 19 performance against the San Diego Gulls.
Lineup Notes
With Mikko Rantanen getting recalled by the Avalanche on Saturday, Andrew Agozzino moved up to the Rampage's top line, centering Dennis Everberg and Borna Rendulic. Trevor Cheek, who was recalled by San Antonio on Saturday, skated on the third line with Troy Bourke and Dan Maggio. Spencer Martin started in net.
