Griffins' 13-Game Win Streak Snapped in 2-0 Defeat at San Antonio

Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Spencer Martin stopped all 31 shots he faced as the Grand Rapids Griffins had their 13-game winning streak come to an end, falling to the San Antonio Rampage 2-0 on Sunday at AT&T Center.

Despite turning aside 39 of 41 shots, Jake Paterson remains in search of his first AHL victory. The Griffins were two wins shy from matching a franchise record 15-game run set earlier this season, lasting from Nov. 18 to Dec. 26, 2015. The result also snapped the Rampage's eight-game losing skid.

Sam Henley started the scoring shorthanded for San Antonio (25-33-8-0) 3:18 into the opening period. Tomas Nosek's close-range effort forced a stick save from Spencer Martin, with the rebound coming out to Henley in the slot. Henley then took matters into his own hands, gaining the zone and firing a shot from the left circle beating Paterson high to the glove side. The Rampage controlled the play throughout the first frame, outshooting the Griffins 15-6.

Nikita Zadorov added to San Antonio's lead 23 seconds into the third period. After Andrew Agozzino won the faceoff against Andy Miele at the left circle, Zadorov sent a snapshot from the left point that went off the right post and in past a screened Paterson. Agozzino's assist gave him his sixth point in three games against the Griffins this season.

The Rampage thought they had their third goal with 13:17 remaining in regulation. Zadorov's pass from the left circle ended up on the stick of Dennis Everberg, who spun around to his forehand and slid the puck into an open net. However, the goal was immediately waved off due to goaltender interference.

San Antonio finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Griffins were unable to cash in on two opportunities. Grand Rapids concludes its five-game road trip on Tuesday with a rematch against the Rampage at AT&T Center at 8 p.m. EDT.

Three Stars: 1. SA Martin (W, 31 saves, SO); 2. SA Henley (goal); 3. SA Zadorov (goal)

Notes: The Griffins are 30-4-0-0 when giving up two or fewer goals this season.
